The Lens Hood is one of the most important accessory you need for each lens you own.A lens hood provides multiple functions: preventing image-degrading lens flare by blocking stray light from striking the surface of the lens, it enables your lens to give you the sharpest photographs with the best contrast and most vivid colors, in inclement weather, it can assist in keeping moisture or wind-blown debris off the lens; and it protects the front barrel from the inevitable impacts against walls, door frames, and other real-life obstacles.

Choosing the right digital SLR for Your Nature Photography

It 'true that no matter how much the equipment used – is what one does with the camera that counts. However, there is no doubt that when you're hiking through a dense jungle in the middle of Central America that you want to pack light. Even though the Nikon D2x has the prestige of being Nikon's premier "PRO" camera, you can not find is the best solution for your work of nature.

Onethe first things you must consider is how you intend to use the images. This is one of the magazines you want to publish your work. Send to "submission guidelines" and discover their minimum mega pixels. The same applies to stock agencies – browse around and decide what position he would ultimately like to sell your work. Many organizations have guideliens presentation published on their websites. If you're interested in learning more and doing nature photography for your pleasurethen by all means buy the less expensive models. There's nothing wrong with a camera that takes a picture 5 or 6 megapixels. You will still be able to blow up to poster size, if you want a special print made.

Choosing the right digital SLR for Your Nature Photography

It 'true that no matter how much the equipment used – is what one does with the camera that counts. However, there is no doubt that when you're hiking through dense junglehalf of Central America that you want to pack light. Even though the Nikon D2x has the prestige of being Nikon's premier "PRO" camera, you can not find is the best solution for your work of nature.

One of the first things you must consider is how you intend to use the images. This is one of the magazines you want to publish your work. Send to "submission guidelines" and discover their minimum mega pixels. The same applies to stock agencies – browse around and decide whichplace that would ultimately how to sell your work. Many organizations have guideliens presentation published on their websites. If you're interested in learning more and doing photography of nature for your pleasure then by all means buy the less expensive models. There's nothing wrong with a camera that takes a picture 5 or 6 megapixels. You will still be able to blow up to poster size, if you want a special print made.

Magnification – Use it to your advantage

Forphotographers of wildlife, in particular, the advantage of one shooting with any Nikon digital camera these days is the magnification factor. Rather than creating a sensor the same size as a frame of 35mm film, Nikon and most other digital SLR camera manufacturers decided to create a sensor that is smaller than the standard 24×36mm frame models older movies. Have a smaller sensor means that are not going to capture all the information on the left and right and up andbottom of the frame. This may sound really bad … but there is no need to worry about what they have not arrested because the puck was adjusted so that what you see is what has visually captured in a digital file.

The result is that the car multiplies the magnification of all lenses. Magnification Nikon (depending on the camera is used) is about 1.5 x. This means that a 300mm is zoomed to 450 millimeters. This is great news for photographers and wildlife. Theonly drawback is that the wider angle lens (like a 17 millimeters wide angle becomes not-as-a 25.5 millimeters wide angle. However, landscape photographers still some options. I'll get to those a bit '.

Choosing the right lenses

Unfortunately, no one can say that the lenses to buy or how to build the perfect system for SLR photography nature. " Again, depends on the type of photos you like to take, your personal preference and the market in which you want to sell yourimage.

The great advantage of the Nikon cameras is that you can use older lenses on your body. This allows much more freedom of choice and means you can get really amazing great lenses low rates.

I will give you an example. One of my favorite target is a manual focus 300mm F4 lens first since 1970. It cost only $ 350 CAD (in the sense that it would be much cheaper in U.S. dollars) and the glass is still ED! Nikon especially developed ED (Extra-low Dispersion)pricise optical glass to provide color correction. This special glass (not available in all objectives Nikon), provides the sharp, clear resolution required for excellent photographs. The other advantage (at least for me, they usually hike to see wildlife) is that it weighs less and packs.

Another example – 50mm 1.4 autofocus (that's right f1.4!) Sells for only $ 166 CAD (again, much less in American dollars). It 'really a 80 millimeters on your body. This means that they have a prime numberlens, 80 millimeters, which can take pictures in darker settings. And because Nikon has perfected its 50 millimeters lens from its inception as a company (Nikon used to include a 50 millimeters on all its organs, until the late 1980s), is one of Nikon is much slower. E 'economy, because 50 millimeters on a 35mm camera is a kind of pooey. 80 millimeters, but on a camera Digial is wonderful. edit
change the caption:
Magnification – Use it to your advantage

For wildlife photographersparticular, the advantage of one shooting with any Nikon digital camera these days is the magnification factor. Rather than creating a sensor the same size as a frame of 35mm film, Nikon and most other digital SLR camera manufacturers decided to create a sensor that is smaller than the standard 24×36mm frame models older movies. Have a smaller sensor means that are not going to capture all the information on the left and right and top and bottom of the frame. ThisIt may sound really bad … but there is no need to worry about what they have not arrested because the puck was adjusted so that what you see is what has visually captured in a digital file.

The result is that the car multiplies the magnification of all lenses. Magnification Nikon (depending on the camera is used) is about 1.5 x. This means that a 300mm is zoomed to 450 millimeters. This is great news for photographers and wildlife. The only drawback is thatwider angle lenses (such as 17 millimeters wide angle becomes not-as-a 25.5 millimeters wide angle. However, landscape photographers still some options. I'll get to those a bit '.

Choosing the right lenses for your style of Nature Photography

Lenses – Pros and Cons

While I can not tell you the right to buy lenses foryour particualr needs … I can give you feedback / impressions on particular objectives I am using or have used in the past.

10.5 millimeters f2.8 Fisheye Nikkor: I never thought of a specialized lens that can provide me with the use of time. For more information, I wrote a short article on how to use a fisheye lens in your nature photography athttp: / / www.naturestocklibrary.com/gallery/2472892

Nikkor 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5G ED-IF AF-S DX Zoom – This goal is all right. I bought a kitslow long ago and is also served for the widest range. I wish I had saved pennies and bought a 2.8 which offers a wider range (like a 12mm to 25mm).

Tamron 17-35mm f2.8: This is a great lens, but alas, I bought a camera and zoom on my digital body means that it is not helpful in my photography right now. I'm thinking of selling it (along with my other wide angle) and the purchase of a 2.8 that has a wider range so that I can do more with the landscapephotography.

AF Nikkor 50mm f/1.4D – This is the very purpose I have discussed above. It's small, has a low price tag, allows you to shoot in really dark situations, and this is a 80 millimeters on a digital camera. Really can not go wrong.

Nikon Nikkor 80-200mm ED AF Zoom f2.8D – This is a fantastic lens, which remains at 2.8, no matter if you're shooting at 80 or 200 millimeters. Again, magnification means that it is actually a 300 mm zoom. Zoom are great because you can adjust the focal distance dependingin which the subject is. Not so great, with arguments that are always far away (such as macaws see here), but very impressive for wildlife such as deer docile. It also has a macro function that works like a charm.

Nikkor 105mm f/2.8D AF Micro, Micro or 105 for short – This is probably the most Nikon macro lens used, probably because the target can serve triple duty. First of all, is a macro lens photography and allows you to take photos in a 1:1 ratio of reproduction (on a 35 millimetersbody), which means that a 24 by 36 millimeters subject fills the entire frame. Secondly, it makes an excellent general purpose short telephoto objective. Thirdly, it is also, at least one objective picture, very reasonable (although magnification may be too much of a telephoto lens on a digital SLR). I really love this objective for macro photography.

Nikkor 300mm F4 Manual Focus – While the "prime" lens does not offer the flexibility of a zoom … is still an ideal choice for best resultsyour work. This is the very purpose I have discussed above, and considering only costs $ 350, is the light and the focus is so easy, is one of my favorite target. I never leave home without it.

Nikkor 600 millimeters f5.6 manual focus ED glass – Once again, I paid much less than this target (which is actually a heavy 900 millimeters on a digital body and also the famous Nikon ED glass!) Why is an older model and the manual focus. I spent $ 1,599 USD – but I think that a newer model would have gone for a period of$ 5,000 to $ 25,000, depending on the f-stop. Some may argue that the 5.6 is a bit 'too close to an F stop, but I find compression with telephoto lenses means that I would not shoot an individual 900 mm, with anything wider than 5.6 (2.8 would make the Focusing on such a far too superficial subject). Although … for the most 2.8 is magic!

In the past, I also used the Sigma 70-300mm f/3.5-5.6 and Tamron 200-400mm f/3.5-5.6 zoom affordable and is also served, while Iwas learning about photography. Since then I sold to pay for the lenses I currently use.

Because I love you and I Highly Recommend manual focus

I used to be terrified of manual focusing. Lens Auto Focus more, the ring of fire is small and difficult to use … Also there is something really easyAbout just allowing your camera to do the work of focus for you. I was afraid of not reacting fast enough for moving subjects and would not be as good as my camera 's auto focus. Now I see the errors of my ways.

For wildlife (or people) you want to make sure that the eyes are the main subject in sharp focus. Will not be able to sell any frame if the eyes are not focused. If you shoot a subject at 10 meters 2.8 and use autofocus, the camera will choose theobject closest to the camera (usually the nose, cheeks, forehead and eyes … not the eye itself). A 2.8 aperture means you will have a depth of field soft eyes that seem out of focus. The older (and cheaper) lenses manual focus rings are the finest focus you've ever seen. I find it much easier to use manual focus on my 300mm F4 lens in 1970 that my autofocus most recent 80-200mm zoom (using auto-focus function). Unfortuately, I find the ring focusto the latest one pooey po '… but I wanted to make the case because I think manual focus lenses since 1970, are the greatest things since sliced bread!

Rule of Thumb for those quick

You may already be aware of the fact that the shutter speed must be at least equal to the distance of your goal. For example, you need to shoot at least 1/300th of a second if you use a 300mm or shake hands will make your pictures look really blurry. And nothing morethan 300 millimeters should be placed on a tripod (preferably one with a ball head for the work of wildlife). With magnification, you may be able to get away with shooting a 300 mm (450 mm on digital) hand-held … to 1/450th of a second or higher …) in a pinch … but to invest in a good tripod ball head really improve performance if your goal is greater than 300 millimeters.

Back on the couple's your shutter speed at a distance with lens … If you are currently turning P or Auto is a good ideachange shutter priority instead. If you're shooting with a 200 millimeters Make sure your shutter is set at 1 / 300 because of the magnification. All modern digital cameras, then set the aperture to couple with the shutter speed. At the same time, the practice of photography manual settings is always a good idea, because it will give you more control.

I could write for days about shooting nature and wildlife photography with Nikon equipment, but I will stop for now. You are invited to read moremy nature photography articles online at%% 20Articles http://www.naturestocklibrary.com/Wildlife 20Photography.

Opteka continues to offer quality third party products for most major camera manufacturers. I purchased this product for my Sony Alpha 100 as the Sony proprietary products are simply not within my financial grasp. I knew that going into the Sony purchase but has researched Opteka and found they offer similar products that were achieving solid reviews as alternate substitutes.

The price on this product was comparable to most third party providers. Their reputation is what sold me though and I have not been disappointed yet.

Customer Reviews

Great little trigger – Richard Graves – San Fran
Works as advertised. You can pre-focus just as you do with a manual shutter release on the camera. The little red light tells you when the shutter fires.

GREAT CONCEPT – Norman N. Mcdonald –
Bought this for my adult son for his SONY DSLR, for Christmas. Now, I’m a hero!

Very handy little tool – Theresa L. Ashwell – VA
I absolutely love this device! The antenna broke almost instantly but I just glued the base and it’s been fine since. You can push the button plugged into your camera or take the remote far away and use it. Great for self portraits! I recommend this to any photographer!

I had been using a Pentax-M 50mm f/1.4 and loved the ability to shoot in low light. However, the -M lenses are manual focus and manual aperture, and I was getting too many out-of-focus shots that I regretted missing (I’m taking a lot of baby shots lately). So I decided to get a full-auto fast prime, and I was looking at this and it’s 24mm and 28mm cousins.

The lens works beautifully. It’s a tank and feels well-built. Not as tight as an all-metal lens, but solid nonetheless. If you note, the 20mm doesn’t have a macro mode – the 24mm and 28mm do. Really, it focuses very close without any problems, but at this focal length it’s kind of silly to be thinking ‘macro photography’ anyway.

The 30mm effective focal length is a tad wide even for indoor close-quarters shots. If I had to decide again, I’d probably opt for the 24mm or possibly even the 28mm – the effective focal lengths would be a little more practical for my purposes. However, if you want to take in a lot of scenery and need a fast lens, this fits the bill without venturing into the fisheye territory.

Optically, I was disappointed at first, because I was getting soft pictures when it’s wide open, even when on a tripod. But then I did a focus test and found my camera was back-focusing. I have a K10D, so you have to do some trickery to adjust the focus (search online and you can find out how), but afterward, I’m getting acceptably sharp images.

And, for the record, my camera says the aperture opens to f/1.7 – not that I’m complaining.

I give it just 4 stars, though, because when compared with my Pentax-M 50mm f/1.4 when they’re both wide-open, the old 50mm is noticeably sharper. From what I’ve heard, you have to spend the cash for one of the Pentax limited lenses to get the same quality in an auto focus lens as with their old -M and -A glass. So, for about half the price of a limited lens, you’re getting a good deal.

“Sigma 20mm f/1.8 EX DG RF Aspherical Wide Angle Lens for Sigma SLR Cameras” Overview

This 20mm super-wide angle lens offers an angle of view of 94.5 and a large aperture of F1.8. It allows close-ups with a minimum focusing distance of less than 20cm and a working distance lens to subject of 6.5cm

Customer Reviews

fairly good – James Geyman – denver, co United States
This lens is physically about the same size and weight as the canon 17-40L lens. They have similar central sharpness at f4.0 but the sigma corners are fairly soft, and no way as crisp as those on the canon 17-40L lens. There is little vignetting at f4.0 on the sigma, but the vignetting at f 1.8 is fairly marked.

I am not sure of the best use of this unique lens. I bought it for nighttime photography of the constellations as a poor man’s version of the very expensive canon 16-35L lens, but it may prove to be to soft for this. I will have to try it some. It does focus quite closely, and the large focusing ring is pleasant to use. For people travel photography, with a diffuse blurred background, such as from photographer Phil Borges, this may be quite a useful lens. It’s is a fast lens, but you have to really just want the center to be sharp, as for landscape photography it will be too soft and the 17-40L lens will be much better.

very nice lens – Kerry Pierce – Detroit, MI USA
I recently purchased this lens, so I don’t have a lot of shutter time with it yet, but thus far, I’m very pleased with it. I use the lens on both a Nikon d300 and a Nikon d700.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that the lens is quite sharp wide open, at f/1.8. Stopped down to f/4 or f/5.6, the lens is very sharp, at least in the center. I haven’t tested edge or corner sharpness yet.

The lens is large, typical Sigma style, but good build and finish, also typical of the Sigma EX lenses.

Overall, I’m quite pleased with the lens. It works well on both of my cameras and produces sharp photos with good color and contrast.

I have 2 issues with the lens. Autofocus is rather slow and the lens switch for manual/autofocus is the focus ring. The focus ring is very large, taking up most of the lens barrel. That’s a clever design and is nice if you do a lot of switching between manual and autofocus, because you don’t have to look at the lens to find the little switch like you do on most lenses. But, that design is also a problem in that it makes mounting the lens on the camera more difficult to do without moving the focus ring to the Manual position. Neither of these things are show stoppers, so I think the lens rates 4 stars.

Sounds good on paper AND in real life – F. Leung –
I really can’t fault this lens for what it is not – after considering its modest price tag. Sure it’s not a Canon 24/1.4L and it’s not exactly sharp wide open on a full-frame DSLR. For less than 0, however, its few shortcomings (AF clutch design, AF speed/accuracy) become just minor inconveniences and you get a great lens for available light environmental portraits. My copy provides useable 8×10″ prints at F/1.8 and is very sharp by F/3.5. Flare control, contrast and color rendition are fine. Bokeh and macro performance are surprisingly good for a wide angle. All in all, I’m glad I didn’t spend a lot more (in these tough times) to own the 24/1.4L.

A bargain for digital SLR users – M. Puckett – Arlington, VA United States
This was almost always the lens of choice for me on my Sony Alpha A100. I cannot comment on it’s capibilities for full-frame cameras, but for almost all Sony/Minolta digital users, this will not be an issue anyway. The 1.8 aperture, combined with Sony’s anti-shake feature allow for some really nice low-light photography.
It worked equally well for candid portaits and any kind of landscape photos on the Sony, I was surprised how much wider it felt than the standard 24-xx mm zoom lenses, and the quality was always miles ahead.

Downside: not the fastest focusing, and IQ in low light is not that great; it does tend to hunt for the correct focus. Not sure how much of that is the camera, and how much is the lens. Also, be prepared to get the lens focus calibrated in order to bring out the best from it.

Overall, great sharpness, color and contrast for the price.

This was the first lens I bought after getting my K200D. I wanted something beyond the 55mm from my kit lens but didnt have a lot of money to spend. At it was hard to pass this up. Keep the price in mind when looking at this lens.

For you get a good lens for indoor and outdoor shooting of people and “stuff.” When I am shooting people in candid situations, I find the 28-80mm range gives me what I need to get the groups and zoom in to get expresions. Its a nice middle. The Image quality is not the best but again, for less than dinner for two with drinks, it is more than acceptable.

This is a fat but light lens. Lots of plastic but still seems well built. I dont think it will take any more or less abuse than any other lens out there. Then again, for , if it gets destroyed its not such a big deal. In fact, it has become my “Danger” lens – If there is a chance I might damage something, I use this one!

The image quality is good – not great – but good. It is a little soft at 80mm and wide open. It shoots a little dark and a little warm but nothing that is too hard to adjust in post processing. Again, this is a budget lens so dont expect too much. The minimum focus distance is not close – closer to 3 feet than 2 (1 meter) – which limits the zoom a little. For people shooting, its not a big deal because no one wants a lens stuck in their face!

I am very happy with this lens and I would recommend it to anyone on a tight budget. But even if you dont have a tight budget, if it is the right lens 10 times a year, its a bargain.

“Tamron AF 28-80mm f/3.5-5.6 Aspherical Lens for Pentax Digital SLR Cameras” Specifications

The Tamron AF28-80mm f3.5-f5.6 is a standard zoom lens with a wide to medium telephoto range of 28-80mm, providing great range for nature and landscape photography or snapshots and home photography. By using aspherical elements in the front optical group, Tamron reduced the total number of elements required. They also used strong, engineered plastic for the barrel, making the total lens body only 8.4 ounces. These features make this lens extremely versatile and lightweight. This model is dedicated to Pentax AF SLR cameras.

Too good for the money! – David –
This is what it is, which is why I gave it 4 stars. It’s not a professional lens, but it works perfect for everyday amateur use. Nice focal range 28-80 (equivalent 42-120). Reasonable for anything indoors or fairly close, works as a portrait lens and does well with landscapes and architecture. Great general usage lens and compact as well. The price is really remarkable. I have 8 lenses and this one gets the most use. I have it mounted to a Pentax K20D

Multi-Purpose – Brenda Chase – Newport, OR
I use this lens on a Pentax Digital and my old ME Super film camera. After purchasing this for the digital I noticed it had the f stop settings so I put it on the ME Super and it works fine in manual mode. The price was right so I got one for each camera.

Tamron AF 28-80 f/3.5-5.6 for pentax – L. T. Barnillo – QC, Philippines
A good walk around lens for outdoor shoots. AF is a little bit slow. A good buy for its price.
